On my trip from Germany to Bali I decided to treat myself to a few nights in Bangkok, one of my favorite cities in the world, to sleep of jetlag and soak up the tropical city life – just what I needed after a winter in Hamburg. I stayed at the Metropolitan by COMO Bangkok, a hotel that promises Zen style relaxation in an urban environment.
My Stay at the Metropolitan by COMO Bangkok
The minimalist design of the rooms of the Metropolitan by COMO Bangkok is the perfect contrast to the busy hustle of Bangkok. Unfortunately it didn’t come with a view but the room made up for it with its generous size. I loved how big it was – lots of space to roll out my yoga mat, which the hotel provided for me rolled and ready. My yoga heart made a little jump when I discovered this.
The huge bathroom with shower and bathtub is simply beautiful. And to my delight, the COMO Shambala toiletries are scented with a genuinely heavenly mix of geranium, peppermint, lavender and eucalyptus.
The best place to recover from a long distance flight and the accompanying jetlag must be a hotel pool like the one at the Metropolitan by COMO. I spent a perfect afternoon here simply relaxing. To get to the pool you have to walk through the GLOW restaurant and the spa and take a lift one floor down. It sounds more complicated than it is, you’ll find it, I promise!
Who doesn’t love Thai food? I devoured some delicious pad thai for lunch at the pool. When you’re craving something healthier to eat, the restaurant GLOW offers plenty of organic and raw food dishes. They also serve a breakfast buffet that some say is one of the best in Bangkok.
The hotel’s spa uses Asian inspired therapy to treat the mind, body and soul. Indian head massage, Shiatsu and Thai Massage are just some of the treatments on offer to help rebalance you and clear away some of life’s toxins. But be warned – you pay extra for the luxury environment. A cheaper option is to go to the Wat Pho Traditional Thai Massage school for the best Thai massage of your life.
The Metropolitan by COMO Bangkok offers daily yoga classes. If you want more yoga, a 5-minute walk from the hotel you’ll find Lullaby Yoga, my favorite yoga studio in Bangkok.
I loved my jetlag-survival stay at Metropolitan by COMO in Bangkok and would recommend it to everyone who wants to explore Bangkok in style, but also wants to enjoy some yoga and detox-worthy food.
