About the Instructor
Akari is a dedicated yogini, yoga/meditation teacher (200 E-RYT), Kirtan leader, and multi-instrumentalist known for her inspirational style of teaching and self-expression towards healing, love, and empowerment.
Akari has a unique way to inspire students all around the world by transmitting authentic teachings from the heart. With the power of sankalpa (intention) and bhavana (deepest feeling in the moment), Akari creates and holds a sacred space for student’s inner journey.
In class, Akari encourages students to stay connected with the flow of the breath throughout the dynamic asana practice; the breath as a bridge between conscious mind and subconscious mind, a portal to the present moment, a key for healing and transformation, and a mean to transcend the physical practice to beyond. Akari’s teaching incorporates both physical and mystical aspects of yoga that combines Hatha Yoga, vinyasa (linking movement with breath), Tantra, functional yoga anatomy, nadis (energy lines), chakras, pancha bhutas (5 elements), self-inquiry, meditation, mudra, mantra, mythology and vast knowledge of yogic philosophy.
She has studied different styles of yoga over the years and dedicated countless hours on self-practice. Studying the esoteric lineages of Indian/Tibetan Tantra and Advaita (non-duality) especially brought a lot of depth to her own practice and spirituality. She feels deep gratitude to all her teachers that have enriched her life, namely; Sianna Sherman, Greg Cooper, Lorrain Taylor, Radasi, Tina Nance, Burkhard Langemann, Kirsten Reiss, Swami Vivekenanda Saraswati, Sahajananda, Reinhard Gammenthaler, Bill Mahony, Swami Chetanananda, Constantina Rhodes, Sri Prem Baba, Mio Shinohara, Kriyavidya, Krishna Das and Byron Katie.
Akari’s background includes over 20 years of music study with various instruments, a degree in sociology, several years of NGO fieldwork in Africa and SE Asia, knowledge of permaculture combined with living off-grid for several years, active involvement in international rainbow gathering movements, extensive training in theta healing and bodywork, and plant medicines.
Akari’s dharma (soul purpose) is to elevate the consciousness of humanity towards love and freedom of our true nature through practice of yoga, art of music, intentions, commitment to embrace all aspects of ourselves and gifts of life, and becoming a true agent of change for the world that we love to create.
